Ice skating in Plaza de Espa?a – 10.12.2010The lake in Plaza de Espa?a in Tenerife’s capital has been transformed into an ice-skating rink as part of the Island of Ice initiative run by the Town Hall of Santa Cruz’s Development Company, Sociedad de Desarrollo. The ice rink is now open until the 10th of January, between 10:00 and 22:00. The mayor of Santa Cruz, Miguel Zerolo, explained that “This is a novel initiative for Santa Cruz. We are hoping to revitalise business, tourism and leisure in the municipality, especially during the festive Christmas season. The aim of the Island of Ice initiative is to attract the thousands of people from the island to Santa Cruz to do their Christmas shopping.” Ice skating is affordable for everyone, with different prices for children, adults, groups and low income families. The ice skating initiative has been organised by the Town Hall of Santa Cruz’s Development Company in cooperation with the Council of Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands’ Central Office for Business, Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Shipping, CajaCanarias, the Regional Body for Culture, the Regional Body for Fiestas, Distrito Centro, Zona Centro, OICO and Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, among others.
